Available Natural Enemies and Their Attributes

In 2024, MSU Extension updated a 16 page guide to biocontrol agents that are commercially available to control greenhouse pests.

Developed in collaboration with Kansas State University and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness, this fantastic resource includes pictures of each organism, which pests they’ll control, their active temperature ranges, and other key facts that to help growers find success using biological control. It is in a standard 8.5-inch by 11-inch format so that growers can print, laminate and bind the bulletin for use as a training tool or a resource in the greenhouse.

(Note that with any resource, mistakes happen! Dicyphus hesperus and Amblyseius degenerans are listed as being available in Canada only, but these are widely available in the U.S. As for some of the new biocontrol agents, like Anystis and the American hoverfly, things are constantly changing. Check with your local distributor to see if these are available yet in your state).

Special thanks to the biocontrol companies that supplied us with excellent pictures!
