The Topic:

Increasing fertilizer costs have many greenhouse and controlled environment growers looking to optimize nutrient use efficiency across all crops. In this session, our speaker will talk about the results of phosphorus deficiency trials in Cannabis, done over the last few years at Niagara College. A review of other nutrition work in cannabis and similar work in chrysanthemum will round out the talk.

Our Speaker:

Bill MacDonald is a Professor and the Coordinator of the Commercial Cannabis Production Program at Niagara College. Prior to joining Niagara College, he owned and managed greenhouses ranging in size from 1 to 10 acres. For the past eight years he has consulted in the Cannabis industry through his company, Achene Consulting. Bill has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and an Master of Science in Plant Nutrition from the University of Guelph, where he is also Special Graduate Faculty. He is a strong believer in “hands on” learning and advocated for Niagara College to create a program in Cannabis production. In September 2018, Niagara College became the first post secondary institution in Canada to obtain a Health Canada licence specifically to grow Cannabis for the purpose of training students in the production of Cannabis.
